What we do
The Council for British Archaeology (CBA) is a UK wide educational charity that helps champion and promote participation in archaeology. We run the Young Archaeologists’ Clubs for young people aged 8-16 and the annual Festival of Archaeology to encourage the exploration of the places and spaces around us and their stories.
We were founded in 1944 as an independent champion for archaeology to combat the intense pressure on the historic environment from post-war redevelopment. Today, we aim to encourage public participation and to bring together community groups, commercial units, academics and heritage organisations to create and share opportunities to discover, take part and be inspired by archaeology.
Our Membership
As a charity, we rely upon your membership and donations to help us continue our vital work championing archaeology across the UK. You can help support us by becoming a member.
Every membership supports essential participation projects such as the Festival of Archaeology and the Young Archaeologists' Club, helps us advocate for the historic enviroment and listed buildings, and strengthens our mission to champion the public value of archaeology.
